The Twelve Gondolin Houses by shyangell The Twelve Gondolin Houses by shyangell
I come bearing gifts.

So long ago I promised I would colour this. Today, with a PC that works only when it wants, a sensitive mouse of Hell, and a tablet with a wonky software. I FINALLY finished it.

Nicely done B-) (Cool)  I am sure The Professor would have approved of the banners and the helms of the positions of the City and their guardians. :)

I love this! The only issue is that ecthelion's helmet doesn't work with how he killed gothmog because it said that his helmet had a spike on it and he stabbed gothmog with it. But these are all so beautiful

This is fantastic! I love the style--a bit art nouveau? Very pretty. I like your interpretations of the Twelve Houses... :)

No I didn't invent the heraldic symbols. Tolkien described them in some of his published notes on Middle Earth. I can't remeber which volumen but it might be "Peoples of Middle Earth". It's not entirely canonic, but it's not either.

Yeah, well. Tolkien said so. It is really like he was saying "I don't known why nobody has noticed, but this is clearly the bad guy".

Great interpretation. It's really interesting for me as I have been incidentially drawing some pictures which also feature Gondolindrim heraldry (though not in so prominent position). So it's great to compare this one with my own interpretation... =D

These are fabulous. I think the helmets fit JRRT's descriptions much better than the film ones, and definitely look more practical. LOL at Maeglin's ninja-like headwear. :) Great job on the banners as well!

Well, we really haven't seen Gondolin in movies yet. Who knows?
Maeglin's helmet was a nightmare, al that black.

Well, we really haven't seen Gondolin in movies yet. Who knows?

I meant your designs look much more practical to me than the Elven headpieces in the LotR movies - although sure, it may just be the flamboyant Second and Third Age fashion. But still.

I'd love to see your take on the Crown of the Seven Kings one day. ^ ^

Well, perhaps. It just happens (and is just my opinion) that I like the movie designs. So I just tend not to try really.

Anyway, I'm flattered that you think I did that great!

I liked most of the LotR designs as well, just some of the armour pieces struck me as kind of impractical.

You're welcome.

Ah, well, it is possibly true. I have no idea how real armor is used, so unless it is truly outrageous in flies right over my head :)

I like these renditions of each of the house's heraldry. The different armor concepts give them distinction as well, good work :D

Did you make these up or are they from Lord of the Rings? My apologies, it's been a long time since I've read the books.

Not exactly from the lord of the Rings. But Tolkien did describe these Gondolin Houses (from the Silmarillion) in his personal notes, which were published later. So no, I did'nt make them up. I interpreted them.

Ah, I see. I have never read the Silmarillion, but I would like to. I have heard it is a bit long, but well worth the read. Your style is very interesting and I absolutely love it!

Excellent work.
