Idril Celebrindal by shyangell Idril Celebrindal by shyangell
Idril Celebrindal was the golden daughter of Wise King Turgon in the hidden Citiy of Ancient Gondolin. Disheartened, she contemplates the doom that approaches.

This is the colored version of: [link]

People: Noldor
Father: Turgon
Mother: Elenwë
Husband: Tuor son of Huor
Children: Eärendil

Idril (Itarillë in High Speech) is the only of Finwë's great-grandchildren we know for certain that was born in Valinor. Her father was Fingolfin's second son, Turgon (Turakano) and her mother was Elenwë, of mixed noldorin and vanyarin heritage. Because of this combination of vanyarin ancestors she inherited a hair that was golden, and a radiant beauty that was legendary. At a very young age she followed his parent into exile, still a child, and her mother perished in the Helcaraxë. Turgon, would later found a hidden city in Beleriand, the city of Gondolin, which she would never leave again until the very end. Despite the insitent courtship of her cousin Maeglin, she would later accept the suit of a man, Tuor, who was tall and fair as an elf, and the envoy of Ulmo. She had one son, Eärendil, before the jealousy of Maeglin had him betray the city to Morgoth and the city was destroyed and the people had to flee. Irdil led the people out by a passage through the mountains on the long journey to the Mouths of the Sirion, while the warriors fought their battle with the forces of the Dark One.

It's my hope one day that people will eventually make a Silmarillion movie. It would be an utter crime if the city of Gondolin never makes it to the big screen.

I however doubt it. The Silmarillion it's en episodic novel. Because of this it might be narratively suited to create something like a series.
Only parts are actually suited to becoming a movie, and unfortunately you can not take those parts without the whole because otherwise the stories don't make sense.

Very cool. I love her hair, and the designs of the brooch and the leaf pattern on her sleeves.

BTW, is that brooch Elessar?

¿? No, I don't think so, at least that wasn't the intention... it wouldn't be canonical, I think; if it was. No, the idea was that is a brooch with the all around symbol of the House of the King... in Gondolin, the closest followers were those belonging to the House of the White Wing (later led by Tuor), and the gull's wing was a common symbol. :) It was only meant to be a reminder of Turgon.

Thank you for the explanation. :D
I know there is some text in the Unfinished Tales that descripts brooch with stone green as leaves made by Enerdhil in Gondolin and worn by Idril and named Elessar, so this one reminded me of that.
Once again, I admire your work.

Oh, OK... yes one of those pieces of mythology Tolkien played with and never quite decided, because in other versions it was Celebrimbor's smithwork. :)

I  you like it!
